Parliament of Netherlands has already approved Montenegro’s membership in NATO, now it is expected that their Senate does the same. The session in the Senate is scheduled for March 21st, it was said to Weekend Edition of Dnevne Novine daily from Netherlands delegation in NATO.
They added that Montenegro’s membership in NATO is between the Alliance and Montenegro, with no room for third parties to meddle.
“Every nation has a right to decide its own future and choose political and safety policies. Membership in NATO is not directed “against” anyone, but it is a way to reaffirm Western values”, they said in Netherlands delegation.
They added that NATO is dedicated to Western Balkan, helping the countries in the region to implement reforms that would benefit their citizens.
“Every country is tasked with deciding its own fate and membership in NATO, and we respect their choice. NATO is open for all European nations that are ready to take on the promises and obligations that membership carries and that are ready to contribute to our joint safety. In our opinion, Montenegro in NATO contributes to stability in Western Balkan”, Netherlands delegation added.
Spanish Congress of Deputies ratified Montenegro’s Accession Protocol yesterday.
“In order for the ratification process to be finalized, the document must be passed in the Senate. The government sent the draft law to the relevant committees at the end of December 2016,” the government explained.
According to the Spanish newspaper ABC, 267 deputies – the representatives of the People’s Party, the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party and citizens’ group – supported Montenegro’s membership in NATO.
On the other hand, 69 deputies from the coalition “Together, we can” (includes left parties) were against, whereas nine of them abstained.
According to ABC, Spain has contributed that Montenegro officially becomes the 29th member state in May.
Only the USA and the Netherlands have left to ratify the protocol.
