The first two wind turbines on the Krnovo hill near Niksic were set for trial run on Wednesday. The plan is to gradually set them all for trial run that will last three months. During that period, technical testing is to be performed. It is estimated that the Krnovo wind farm would annually generate 200GW/h of electricity, which is enough to supply 50,000 households.
“On 3 May two wind turbines were officially put into trial run. Another six turbines are to be set for trial run on Thursday and Friday. Then all 26 turbines in Krnovo are to be fired up successively, as technical testing is being performed,” Luka Popovic, a representative of the investor, told Prva TV.
The construction of the wind farm in Krnovo has been the first investment of that scale in power generation capacities in Montenegro since 1980. The project began in mid-2015 and it was completed within the stipulated period, the investor says. Popovic explained that this was the first phase of the project and that setting up another twenty turbines is planned in the future.
“Definitely this is a high power – 72MW. Roughly speaking, it is enough to supply about 50,000 consumers. So it’s definitely the electricity amount that will be significant in terms of overall electricity production in Montenegro,” he said.
The project on the Krnovo hill, which is €120m worth, has been implemented by the Austrian company Ivicom Consulting and the French company Akuo Energy.
