Meeting of NATO Heads of State and Government – a step forward for Montenegro

The meeting of Heads of State and Heads of Government of NATO member countries will be held tomorrow at the new alliance headquarters. Prime minister Dusko Markovic will represent Montenegro.

NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg, said that tomorrow’s meeting was important and it would bring together leaders of the member states, in order to send a message of unity and solidarity.

As reported by MINA news agency, Stoltenberg said that the parliaments of all 28 Allies and Montenegro have now ratified the country’s accession to NATO.

“This is a step forward for Montenegro, for stability in the Western Balkans and for our vision of a Europe whole, free and at peace. We look forward to formally welcoming Montenegro as our 29th Ally in early June,” Stoltenberg said at today’s press conference.

Tomorrow’s meeting will demonstrate NATO’s ability to change as the world changes, he added.

As Markovic previously explained, Montenegro will have a position as a permanent member of NATO at the meeting, which is a great day for all citizens.

In addition to Markovic, foreign and defence ministers, Srdjan Darmanovic and Predrag Boskovic, will also be in Brussels tomorrow.

As explained in the NATO headquarters, tomorrow’s meeting is the first meeting at the level of heads of state and government that Montenegro would attend, since it would become a full member of the alliance soon. The meeting is not an official NATO summit, but a meeting of the alliance’s heads of state and government.

The US president Donald Trump will also attend the meeting. He said he was looking forward to meeting his NATO partners and confirming commitment to the alliance.
