Russian authorities have not informed the colleagues from Montenegro about the development of the proceedings against the Montenegrin national Ananije Nikic, who was arrested on 2 April.

Nikic was arrested in Rostov region upon the warrant issued by the NCB Interpol Podgorica on suspicion that he had participated in planning terrorist attacks on 16 October. He has been remanded in extradition custody.

Montenegrin authorities have issued a warrant against Ananije Nino Nikic on suspicion that he was a member of the logistics network which was preparing terrorist attacks in Podgorica on 16 October last year, on the election day.

Nikic has been charged with creating a criminal organisation.

Investigators got interested in Nikic after former Serbian intelligence officer Slavko Nikic claimed that he had offered him one of the key positions in a group that was supposed “to cause chaos in Montenegro”.

According to Montenegrin investigators, Nikic left Montenegro on 9 November last year, and operative data publish in the media showed that he was in Russia.

After six months of extensive investigation, Special Prosecutor’s Office (SDT) brought an indictment against fourteen defendants, whereas Nikic has been charged in a separate case.

The High Court is considering the indictment which charged the defendants of preparing bloodshed after the closure of polling stations. The decision whether the indictment will be approved will be known by Wednesday.

The SDT’s indictment includes two Russian nationals Eduard Shishmakov and Vladimir Popov; Serbian citizens Milos Jovanovic, Nemanja Ristic, Predrag Bogicevic, Bratislav Dikic, Kristina Hristic, Branka Milic, Milan Dusic, Dragan Maksic, Srboljub Djordjevic; three Montenegrin citizens – Democratic Front’s (DF) leaders Andrija Mandic and Milan Knezevic, and DF driver Mihailo Cadjenovic.

According to the indictment, the criminal organisation that was supposed to destabilise Montenegro and forcibly seize power, was lead by two Russian intelligence officers Eduard Shishmakov (Shirokov) and Vladimir Popov. They allegedly created the group with the aim of “carrying out an unspecified number of criminal acts of terrorism” and murdering “the highest-ranking officials of Montenegro”. kat3
