Since the beginning of the Bar-Boljare highway construction, the Trade Union of Construction and Industry of Construction Materials of Montenegro has been trying to establish cooperation with the main contractor, the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), in the field of health and safety at work, the union chairman Nenad Markovic says.
Unfortunately, as Markovic puts it, it turns out that the non-transparency in the work of this multinational company has an epilogue that is not good for Montenegro either, since a part of bad references belongs to the country as well.
“Through the Podgorica-based Monteput JSC, CRBC has refused to sign the agreement on cooperation in the field of health and safety protection proposed by this trade union. The company explained that it applied all standards in the field and that it did not need additional measures or control at work. How the measures are applied can be seen from the specified case – unfortunately with a fatal outcome,” Markovic says.
Therefore, Markovic calls on the government and the Transport Ministry once again through the media, as well as the main contractor, to change the way of work and turn to cooperation with the trade union transparently and in the workers’ interest for safe and secure work.
