€147.9m spent on highway in 2017

Since the beginning of the year, works worth €147.9m have been carried out on the priority section of the Bar – Boljare highway. Data from the Ministry of Transport shows that 81.89% of the planned highway budget was spent.

The ministry is expecting one more request for payment from the Chinese company China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) of €35m by the end of the year, by which the budget will be 100% realised.

The ministry has issued 26 construction permits to date, and works are underway on 95% of the priority section, the ministry stated.

Works are currently underway on 15 out of 16 tunnels and 11 of the 20 bridges to be raised. To date, 37% of the work on all bridges has been carried out, and 60% boring on all tunnels has been completed.

Of the 97 subcontractors engaged, 80 are domestic firms. Of the 3,191 workers hired, 1,221 are domestic, said the ministry.

The works in numbers:

  • 17 permits have been issued for the execution of construction works, and nine for the disposal of redundant material;
  • 20 bridges will be built on the priority section of the highway, and works are currently being carried out on 11of them;
  • 37% of works on all bridges have been completed so far;
  • 60% of the total length of the tunnels has been bored.

Main works are underway on 95% of the route. Boring on two tunnels has been completed.
