Government intends to pay off A2A at once

The Ministry of Economy is considering several options for accelerating A2A’s withdrawal from the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG). The options include taking over entire A2A’s stake in the power company during the next year using various financial instruments which will not affect the public debt, such as factoring and possible borrowing.

Economy minister Dragica Sekulic said this answering DF MP Nebojsa Medojevic’s question how government intended to pay €250 to the Italian company for its withdrawal from EPCG.

Medojevic also reminded the minister that A2A was leaving the power company after a robbery of dozens of millions of euros and that the court trial was ongoing.

Sekulic said that communication with interested financial institutions showed that there was a serious possibility for reaching an agreement.

After Medojevic’s insisting on the concrete option the government will chose, Sekulic said that no solution would be publicly presented until it was defined in details.

“We believe it’s irresponsible to prejudice anything in any way,” Sekulic said.
