At the end of November last year, total loan indebtedness of Montenegrin citizens was €1.12bn, the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG) told Dnevne Novine.

Citizens owed banks €1.094bn for active loans, while their debts based on credit cards amounted to €17.78m, CBCG adds. A little less, more precisely €17.24m, was owed for the overdraft.

According to CBCG, every citizen of Montenegro owes €1,800 to banks on average, which is more than three monthly salaries or a third of the annual salary.

Interestingly, after acquiring independence in 2006, Montenegrin citizens owed banks an average of €373. Since then, the debts of the population have been constantly increasing.
