Suspect talks about assassination of Saša Marković

Two days ago, Ferraris was arrested and remanded in custody for possession of false documents, and was yesterday accompanied by several prison officers armed with rifles to the Special Prosecutor for Combating Organized Crime. During several hours of questioning, according to a few well-informed sources of Dnevne Novine from both the Prosecutor’s Office and the police, Gregory M.F. also commented on the assassination of Sasa Markovic on April 17th in Budva.

“The suspect said that he had information Markovic was killed by mistake, and that the real target was Đuričković”, sources told DN adding that Ferraris declined to reveal the details of his role in the killing of Markovic.

Based on the information provided by Ferraris, Prosecutor’s Office also questioned Aleksandar Markovic, his logistics man. Police had already suspected Sasa Markovic was killed by mistake because he was at the time sitting in a local cafe in Budva with Đuričković. The killers apparently did not know which of them is Đuričković, so they went for Markovic.

Police said both hard work and pure coincidence helped them solve this case.

DN previously wrote the murder of Markovic was most probably the collateral result of Đuričković’s, his godfather, conflict with members of a criminal group from Kotor, allegedly over 300 kilos of cocaine that went missing late last year in Spain, and for which Goran Radoman (37) was killed several months ago in Belgrade.

Suspect close to Vujotić

DN also learned arrested Markovic was in close relationship with Milan Vujotić, whose “Audi” got blown up on Febuary 19, in broad daylight, in one of the central blocks in Podgorica, witnessed by many passersby. It is believed Vujotic was also in conflict with Kotor clans, which is most probably why he fled Montenegro and is currently residing in one of the countries of the European Union.

Police wanted to take Vujotic’s statement in connection with the murder of former official of the Liberal Party Sasha Markovic, but could not reach him: police raided his home in Zlatica suburb of Podgorica, which is guarded by members of private security.

The plan was precise

The head of Montenegrin criminal police, Milovan Pavicevic, said in a press conference held last night at 9 PM that most of the details of the planned assassination have been revealed.

According to their information, Aleksandar Markovic hired Ferraris to be the hitman, and provided him with means necessary for the execution of this crime: gun, wardrobe, two cars and two motorcycles, license plates previously stolen in Budva, mobile phones, SIM cards and three apartments to use.

“Police officers located and searched these apartments, confiscating items which will be sent to the forensic center for expertise”, said Pavicevic.

Discovered in Kotor by traffic police

The case was discovered two nights ago around 8 PM, when a patrol of Kotor traffic police in Radanovici, accidentally discovered the suspects.

The police pulled over a “Golf”, driven by Markovic, and because he was driving too close after him, a “Jeep” with Michael Gregory Ferraris at the steering wheel.

The “Jeep” was driving that close to apparently disguise from police officers the forged license plates, which they immediately saw and which were the reason to stop both drivers.

They were taken to the police station in Kotor, where they remained silent during the hearing, and considering that there was no particular evidence against them, and the 24 hours detention mark was expiring, Markovic was released. But being a foreign citizen, Ferraris did not understand why he is being kept, so at the last moment, not knowing he too will soon be free to walk away, he suddenly spoke up and told investigators he was supposed to kill Đuričković, and that Markovic was his logistics man.

Kotor police immediately alerted colleagues in Budva to locate and arrest Markovic, and also to raid his “safehouse” apartment near the bus station in Budva.
