Two members of LGBT Forum Progress attacked in park, one person detained

According to the NGO, the young men were sitting in the park when they were approached by a person who, unprovoked, started yelling at them.

In a derogatory way, he asked them whether they were members of the LGBT community. They responded positively and ignored him in order to avoid a conflict.

“However, the person continued to provoke, calling them ‘fagots’ and claiming LGBT people were sick and embarrassing Montenegro. After that, he started to threaten them and said ‘I would gladly break your heads’. The two young men continued to ignore the situation, but the person, whose identity was verified later, continued with provocations and threats. The young men called the police after that, because they felt insecure. The police arrived at the scene and directed them to file a criminal complaint. After taking the statement from the young men, the police patrol went to the site of the incident where they found the accused person and arrested him for questioning,” the LGBT Forum Progress communicated.

The Basic State Prosecutor’s Office got in touch with the Director of the LGBT Forum Progress, Stevan Milivojevic, and announced that the young men were interviewed. The Office added the attacker was detained after he had been questioned.

The act was qualified as an offense. The trial will be held today.

NGO LGBT Forum Progress welcomed the efficient and professional response of the police and the prosecutor in charge.
