Every citizen of Montenegro owes €1,900 in loans at the average level, as the total indebtedness of Montenegrin citizens in the end of July amounted to €1.197bn.

The Central Bank of Montenegro reports significant increases in loans granted to citizens – in January provided loans amounted to €1.12bn, in February – €1.12bn, March – €1.14bn, April – €1.159bn, May – €1.175bn, June – €1.188bn and in July – €1.197bn.

The same applies to the overall loans, which amounted to €2.67bn in January, while in the end of July they were €2.944m, i.e. almost €300m.

The CBCG also reports that citizens mostly get non-purpose and cash loans, and therefore owe banks €621m in total. As for the housing loans, they have €367m of unpaid debt. This data clearly indicates citizens take loans even at high interest rates.

The CBCG expects the debts of the population to increase in the forthcoming period.
