“I think it’s difficult to reach an agreement between Montenegro and Croatia. We’ve been trying since 2002. There is a mutual consensus to go to International court of justice in Hague. This consensus means that two countries will agree on the jurisdiction of this court and submit a so-called admissive agreement, to agree on the subject of disagreement and to reach an agreement to execute the decision of the International court in Hague. Since we are aware that we cannot reach an agreement on our own, and that we have an agreement that we’re not respecting for 13 years, we decided to go to International court of justice in Hague as soon as possible. I expect it to be resolved there, but I don’t expect it to happen soon”, said Vujanovic in an interview for agency Anadolija.
Borders issues are, as Montenegrin president said, always very unpleasant. He reminded that the breaking up of former Yugoslavia happened because of borders and territiories issues, and that Hague conference that was unsuccessful suggested that all countries become independent.
He added that Sutorina is “an issue that unexpectedly and unnecessarily complicated and caused the hold-up in relations between the two countries”. He emphasized that B&H “lost” by prolonging the process regarding the Sutorina issue.
When the country finishes the process of joining the NATO, said Vujanovic, it will be significantly closer to EU.
President of Montenegro reminded us that all representatives of national minorities in Montenegro were for Montenegrin independence, for European integrations and for NATO integrations.
“They are a big treasure of Montenegro. We don’t have any issues with any of the national minorities, Bosniacs-Muslims, Albanians or Croats. On the contrary, they are a wealth, a capital, a value and a jewel of Montenegro and we are particularly proud that Montenegro has good relations with their native countries”, said Vujanovic.
