It’s a paradox that whole suburbs that ‘lie’ on the path of the water supply system are forced for years to provide drinking water by buying cisterns for extremely high prices (at least five euros per cubic meter) although water from regional water supply system costs 30 cents, it was reported by Pobjeda.
Vice president of the parliament of Montenegro Suljo Mustafic who is a citizen of Bar, talks about the problems of water supplies in this municipality, and in an interview to Pobjeda he emphasized that due to catastrophic situation it will be necessary for the country to get involved.
„In reality there are no initiatives from local authorities. At the same time, from Herceg Novi to Ulcinj in local water supply companies 950 people are employed with very high salaries. If water supply was perfect I could understand that, but this way Regional water supply system’s capacities are not being used, and municipalities don’t want to, or just partially take water from this system; water is becoming a matter of business, people are financially exhausted, there is no quality control.
All this points out that something is wrong and that only citizen’s interest is not being considered”, said Mustafic.
„Price of the 5-6 cubic meters cistern from city water supplies with transport is 25 euros. I pay for water 1.6 euros per meter cubic, so double the price compared to the water I pay in apartment in Bar, and then I pay additional 15 euros for transport and it turns out that price of the water is 5 euros per meter cubic. Restaurant and ten apartments spend more than 40 cisterns of water per month so you can calculate yourself how much money I spend for water, for expensive water. It’s not profitable but I have no choice. Others in this system, from tranporters to water supply company have the interest to never build a water supply network in this village that has more than 6000 weekend houses. Here trucks with water are operating 24/7, and almost twenty entrepreneurs are in business of selling water”, said Mustafic.
Good portion of the water is not drinking water. Technical water is cheapr and the price is 35 euros for 12 cubic meters, and this water is usually brought from private wells of Bar area.
