DF expects several thousand people at protest

MP for the DF, Milutin Djukanovic, who was listed as the head of the protest in the application, said that the rally would be held on September 27th, starting at 6PM, in front of the Parliament of Montenegro, the news agency Mina carried.

“We reported the protest based on the Constitution of Montenegro, the Law on Public Assembly and the European Convention on Human Rights”, he said at a press conference.

As Mr Djukanovic stressed, the aim of the rally is to express protest against the difficult financial situation, the citizens of Montenegro are living in, as well as against the Government’s policy of constant borrowing.

Mr Djukanovic called on the police officers not to fall for the messages of the current regime and circles close to the government.

“We expect them to behave properly, because they are also victims of manipulation and poor economic conditions produced by the current Government in Montenegro,” Mr Djukanovic said.

According to him, the panic of the regime showed its weaknesses.

Mr Djukanovic said that they stated in the application to expect thousands of citizens at the protest.

“Once again, I am calling on our uniformed officers not to be an instrument in the hands of the regime. We are ready for peaceful protest and we expect the regime to act in that way”, Mr Djukanovic said.

However, he said that the behaviour of the representatives of the regime showed their panic.

“Our basic human right to peacefully gather and express our protest is described by them as an attack against the system and the state. Of course, it is nonsense,” Mr Djukanovic said.

According to the application, the organisers engaged 100 security guards in order to ensure order and peaceful public protest and informed the competent authorities for providing medical care and protection against fire.

Asked whether he expected members and supporters of opposition parties to come to the rally, despite their leaderships refused to participate, Mr Djukanovic said that the gathering was beyond political parties and organisations.

“Many members of those parties promised to come to the protests. As you know, the highest officials of the Socialist People’s Party announced they would come,” Mr Djukanovic said.

He said that they did not specify in the application how long the protests would last.

“The protests will last until our demands are met, and the basic one is forming a transitional government that would allow conducting a fair election,” Mr Djukanovic said.

Asked whether organising protest in front of the Parliament would be allowed, given that the law stipulates that a rally must be located at least 50 meters away from the institution, Mr Djukanovic said he expects the Ministry of Interior to allow them to gather at the site.

“We will communicate our position after getting their response,” Mr Djukanovic added.

Asked whether they received a response from opposition political entities to the Agreement on the Minimum Political Agreement offered by the DF, Mr Djukanovic said that certain parties had communicated they would not sign the document.

“But independent MPs Mladen Bojanic, Obrad Gojkovic and the President of the party Movement for Pljevlja are ready to sign the Agreement. The DEMOS said they would announce their position later, and we expect a response from the SNP”, Mr Djukanovic said.
