EU Delegation: Law to be respected, excessive use of force unacceptable

“We have carefully monitored developments in Podgorica in the past few days. We expect all parties to show restraint and to respect the law. In particular, we call on all political actors to continue constructive dialogue within the framework of democratic institutions and processes. In this light, we welcome the initiative for a renewed political dialogue within the Assembly”, the Delegation said.
They emphasized the excessive use of force is also unacceptable.

“And while protesters should respect the law and refrain from violence, excessive use of force by authorities is also unacceptable. At the same time, freedom of expression is a fundamental right. Journalists should work professionally and enjoy freedom to carry out their work unhindered”, stressed the Delegation.

European Union Delegation to Montenegro is concerned regarding the arrests of two journalists and the attack on the building of TV Pink M, which resulted in injuring of a journalist.

“Competent authorities should now thoroughly investigate these incidents, in accordance with the principles of the rule of law.”
