Criminal charges against Knezevic and Bajcetic filed

“It is suspected that Knezevic and Bajcetic committed the criminal offense on October 17th in the morning, when the police provided assistance to the Municipal Police of the Capital City in the Boulevard of Sveti Petar Cetinjski to remove the stage, tents and other equipment from the site where the public rally of the DF was organised”, the Police Directorate added.

The Police said that the relevant Prosecutor was informed on that and he qualified the offenses after examining the case files.

“We remind that on that occasion Knezevic, as suspected, physically attacked a policeman who was on duty. Although he was attacked, the police officer did not use coercive means against him. It is suspected that Bajcetic, driving the vehicle ‘Renault Megan’, rushed into a police patrol and a police cordon in the Boulevard of Stanko Dragojevic and the Boulevard of Sveti Petar Cetinjski, jeopardising the lives of the participants of the public rally and brought the lives of police officers and officers of the competent services of the General City in immediate danger”, the Police Directorate stated.

Criminal charges against Knezevic were filed to the Prosecutor’s Office on Monday morning in a regular procedure. Knezevic was summoned to the Prosecutor’s Office to make a statement.

On October 17th, Bajcetic was brought before the competent prosecutor who released him pending trial after the hearing.

The Supreme State Prosecution communicated that the evidence showed that Knezevic and Bajcetic were injured on that occasion and that the Prosecution was investigating whether someone committed a criminal offence then.

“The Basic State Prosecutor in Podgorica, also gave an order to the police to identify the persons who caused serious injuries to protester, Zoran Mustura, as well as persons involved in the attack on the headquarters of TV Pink M,” the State Prosecution communicated.

Misdemeanour proceedings were launched against 16 people, including three journalists and two MPs.

“Four persons against whom misdemeanour proceedings were launched said in their statements that they had sustained injuries during the arrests. The Prosecution requested copies of records of the Basic Court containing medical documentation, submitted by those persons as proof of being injured. In the coming days, the Prosecutor’s Office will take all necessary steps to determine how these people were injured,” the Prosecutor’s Office said.

The Prosecutor’s Office also issued an order to the police to gather the necessary medical documentation and the necessary information on the injured members of the police, in order to take a promptly decision in their case too, in accordance with the law.
