Three murders that occurred in Podgorica last week, connected with the conflicts of organized criminal groups, along with the data that 240 plea agreements have been signed, confirm that the message of Mevludin Nuhodžić , the Minister of the Internal Affairs, directed towards prosecutors and judges, saying that they should stop making frequent agreements with criminals, is completely justifiable.
According to the official data, last year, state prosecutors reached 240 plea agreements with physical persons – 156 in Basic State Prosecutor’s Offices, 55 in Higher State Prosecutor’s Offices, whereas Special State Prosecutors reached 29 plea agreements.
“Punishments prescribed in all plea agreements are prison sentences, but in some of them, a fine and confiscation of the property gained by a criminal offence as side punishments were imposed as well, together with the prison sentence” , states the Report on the work of the Prosecutor’s Office for 2017.
According to Zoran Vujičić, representative of the Civil Alliance, lenient punishment policy makes the work of the police senseless.
“Security of the citizens is threatened and only with a strict and determined reaction can the country show power and strength to stop this spiral of crimes”, said Vujičić.
