Exactly a year ago, a mass shooting happened in Cetinje and 11 people died. Vuk Borilovic killed ten persons, two of whom were children. The massacre was stopped after Borilovic was killed. Such tragedy had never happened in Montenegro before.
Disbelief and questions: Why? Why didn’t he spare at least children? Could anyone have stopped the tragedy?
In a statement for the CdM portal, Aleksandar Sasa Zekovic, a member of the ’21st of May’ Initiative and a long-time member and president of the Council for Citizen Control of Police Work, tells that the Cetinje massacre showed that we have an irresponsible elite in both the state and police. They did everything to stop and prevent the dialogue and discussion about police capacities and completely avoided the indisputable political and professional responsibility.
According to Mr Zekovic, the Cetinje massacre clearly demonstrates all the shortcomings of the Montenegrin democracy and state. “The state didn’t do enough to start the process of overcoming this painful event and help citizens in understanding other people’s difficult experiences, but also institutions to develop a quality and more successful response to the crisis situations”.
Mr Zekovic also warns that the massacre showed that we have an irresponsible elite in both the state and police.
“Public appearances of officials of the government and the national police were unclear, inconsistent and devoid of meaning, while communication with the public demonstrated all the weaknesses of the police and government,” Mr Zekovic is adamant.
