It is planned to present a project of Mediterranean railway, which would along with Adriatic-Ionic highway connect countries of the region from Greece, via Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Slovenia till Italy, within which one of the key segments would be revitalization of the railway that would connect Mostar (Sarajevo) and Podgorica, or the route from Capljina to Niksic, it was reported by Anadolu Agency.
For now, the traffic from Niksic towards north is not possible. This is the route that should be built in order to to connect Montenegro with Bosnia and Herzegovina, or Niksic with Trebinje and Capljina.
Construction of the railway would provide a better and easier transportation of a large number of passengers, especially during the touristic season, which makes this railway route fully profitable. Its realization would contribute to development of the tourism and ecology in the region.
Construction of railway Niksic-Capljina, is the biggest common project of Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is a part of the Adriatic-Ionic corridor and of great importance for the whole region because it would connect three capital cities by rail: Podgorica, Sarajevo and Tirana. Its construction would provide a higher quality transport for the passengers and make Port of Bar more accessible and cheaper for the needs of the region.
Officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina, through whose territory a part of the future Adriatic-Ionic highway and Mediterranean railway should go, state that these are two extremely important projects of regional significance and that especially important is the route Capljina – Trebinje – Niksic.
