On the initiative of a member of the Council of the Agency for Personal Data Protection, Muhamed Đokaj, the agency started control yesterday in the National Police, following recent media headlines that the police had been setting up a database of participants of patriotic gatherings – photos, videos, documentation, personal data and other available data about them.
Mr Đokaj posted on Facebook yesterday that the agency had been carrying out control “in relation to the collection of personal data about participants of patriotic gatherings by the police”.
“As I have promised, on 17 May 2021 I launched an initiative for carrying out supervision over the afore-mentioned entity”.
He continued: “According to law, the police can collect and process data, but must not do it outside the scope of law.”
Several sources close to Pobjeda daily told that police cameras had been recording patriotic car convoys every week, while plainclothes police inspectors were taking pics with their mobile phones.
“Every identified participant of a patriotic gathering is inserted into a database, along with all other information they possess about him/her,” a source told Pobjeda daily.
