Commenting on the decision of Montenegrin Ministry of Defense to buy three helicopters and thus improve its military capacities, Aleksandar Radic, a military analyst, said modernization of Montenegrin military forces is not just about meeting NATO standards, but also about the need of the country and a prerequisite for its security.
When it comes to procurement of weapons and military equipment, Radic emphasized that NATO member states also need to meet specific standards. “We often hear people tell NATO membership has brought us to this need but that’s not true. Purchase of helicopters and other military equipment represents the national necessity, as they are necessary for country’s safety. This is a national resource and it’s compatible with obligations a state obtained with its NATO membership,” stressed Radic.
He also said that organization of efficient air security would represent considerable financial costs for Montenegro.
