Inclusive of 31 December 2023, the Police Directorate registered 116 suicides last year, which reinforces the worrying balance of suicides in Montenegro, the police announced.
“Namely, 126 suicides were registered in 2022, 111 in 2021, 109 in 2020, and 100 in 2019. In just the previous five years, 562 people took their own lives in Montenegro”, said the police.
More broadly, Montenegro is a country that, according to the data from the World Health Organization, leads in the last decade in terms of the number of registered suicides in relation to the number of inhabitants.
In cases of suicide, the Police Directorate can only record statistics because it comes to a complete deed, i.e., it usually reacts as a result by undertaking investigative and other procedural actions, with the participation of medical experts, which determine the manner and cause of the death.
