The new draft law on internal affairs enables the director of police to approve surveillance measures for citizens. The Ministry of Interior claims that this is no novelty.
The Ministry said that surveillance measures wouldn’t be used to gather data on citizens but just to either confirm or disprove any suspicions the police have about them. The information thus gathered wouldn’t be possible to use in court.
The law, as the Ministry claims, conforms to the EU’s strictest criteria. The Ministry said that this was common practice for all European police forces.
