American analyst: Moscow will continue creating tensions between Montenegro and Serbia

Bugajski

Moscow will continue creating tension between Montenegro and Serbia and all of their neighbours, says American analyst Janusz Bugajski. According to him, it will be using propaganda and constant provocations.

The Washington Centre for Analysing European Policies’ analyst warns that Moscow will try to turn all bilateral disputes in South-east European countries into latent conflicts.

Bugajski says that Russia can reinforce its position in the Balkans by applying Vladimir Putin’s “divide and conquer” tactics. He said that in order to escape the effects of such tactics, countries in the region should do three things: raise awareness about Kremlin’s political and information warfare, establish bilateral working groups consisting of scientists and cyber propaganda experts to fend off such attacks and share their experiences with Kremlin’s propaganda, so as to develop regional initiatives, especially in the IT field.

When it comes to elections in the region, Bugajski says that Russia will try to meddle in every country and foresees the same scenario for Serbia as the one occurred in Montenegro in 2016.

“Montenegrin government, as well as all other governments in the region, must closely cooperate with the USA and the EU through efficient strategies within which intelligence services must cooperate and exchange information related to cyber security, fight against corruption and bank accounts control,” he says.

Bugajski also believes that ethnic tensions must be solved and that the integration of the region in the EU and NATO can be achieved in the next ten years.
