After the conflict triggered by demonstrators, the police arrested around 22:45 one of the leaders of the Democratic Front (DF), Andrija Mandic, TV Vijesti reports and DF’s Facebook page “Freedom requires people” confirms.
Police used tear gas and stun grenades around 22:10 hours to disperse demonstrators gathered in protest organized by the DF outside the parliament building, after opposition MPs demanded to enter the Assembly and meet with the Speaker of the Parliament, Ranko Krivokapic.
Police responded and completely pushed the protesters away from the area in front of the Parliament.
National TV, RTCG, reports the police is currently subduing conflicts with demonstrators in two locations – at the Temple of Christ’s Ressurection and in front of the City hotel.
The president of New Serbian Democracy and high-ranking DF official, Andrija Mandic, said tonight that “the matter should be brought to an end”.
“I call on special forces and the anti-terrorist units to pack their vehicles and go back to their barracks. Other police officers should be cooperative and let things that need to happen – happen”, Mandic said.
He demanded the President of the Parliament, Ranko Krivokapic, to let DF officials enter the building through the main door of the Parliament, so that “the dialogue can be brought to an end”.
However, this did not happen and shortly after DF official Slaven Radunovic said Mr. Kriovokapić has 10 minutes to answer, after which “they (the organizers of the protest) will no longer be responsible for what will happen”, demonstrators attacked the police, who in turn reacted.
Tear gas was thrown from both sides. According to police information, several police officers were injured in the preliminary clashes.
