All countris of the region should follow Montenegro’s way, as no one should be excluded if we want to get stable Western Balkans in a long run, said Kočo Angjušev, the vice-president of Macedonia’s parliament in an interview with Pobjeda daily. Angjušev recently visited Montenegro and then told his country had clear aspirations towards NATO and the EU.
Macedonia has been following Montenegro in that process, he added, being the leader in the EU talks in the Balkans. “We have a clear position that Macedonia should be part of the EU and NATO, and that’s the only security and political-economic system eligible for us and the region.”
Commenting on the recently held name-change referendum in Macedonia and signs of foreign interference throughout the campaign, he said he was well aware that the Balkans have always been attractive for foreign meddling.
He expected the Balkan countries to join the EU by 2025. “Serbia and Montenegro initiated negotiations and progressed a lot when compared to Macedonia. I hope Macedonia will and can reach them, but this is not about the year of accession but rather the process itself, are we going the right way…and I hope we do.”
