At least we don’t lack political parties – 52 registered so far

Ilustrcija

If there’s one record-breaking thing Montenegro can brag about, then it’s the number of political parties. In a country with around 650.000 population, a total of 52 political parties have been registered. However, if we divide the number of registered voters ahead of the 2020 elections with the number of parties, we get one party per more than 10.000 citizens.

In 2022, another three parties have been registered, the Ministry of Public Administration says: “The Party of Montenegrin Muslims, the Europe Now Movement and the Montenegrin Civic Action.”

Politics in Montenegro has long been a lot more than that, often being perceived as a profitable job. We know well that there were “experts” coming from abroad, allegedly leaving their highly paid jobs to come to Montenegro and involve in politics.
