Montenegro sees a significant increase in summer tourism during August, the Managing Director of the Directorate for EU Integration, International Funds and Digitalisation in the Ministry of Tourism, Ivana Bulatovic, has told Radio Montenegro.

She has announced a new business model and a digital platform for sustainable tourism, aiming to decrease a grey area in the tourism industry that’s taking over €86 million. Ms Bulatovic has also mentioned an energy efficiency project worth €3.5 million supported by the EU that’s been implemented by the competent ministry in collaboration with the energy sector.

There’s an increase in visitors during summer in both south and north of the country, where, according to figures, arrivals have increased by 15% compared to the same period last year.

“It shows we’re working on tourist offer diversification. Tourists now seek different kind of holiday. They don’t just need the sun and sea, they want to connect with the nature, to have a kind of active holiday, wine tours, domestic food products they’re going to remember, some activity in the villages to take part in,” Ms Bulatovic has said.

In addition, she has stressed the need to have more precise data and an improved strategy for tourism development.

“The Government of Montenegro has recognized the significance of such a project, and above all, that there’s €86 million in a grey zone. And that’s just an estimation.”
