BS runs in Podgorica elections independently: Taking advantage of affirmative action

Bosniak Party (BS) will run independently in Podgorica elections, a source from the party’s leadership told Pobjeda.

At the session of the Podgorica BS Committee, which was held on Tuesday evening, it was concluded that “the Committee leadership, based on an analysis of the electorate, is convinced that there is a mood for BS to run in the local elections in Podgorica independently”.

As Pobjeda learns, BS’s independent performance in the local elections in Podgorica is a result of the agreement made by BS leader Rafet Husovic and the top of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS). Thanks to the institution of affirmative action, BS, as a party representing a minority people, will be almost guaranteed a seat in the City Council.

“It is estimated that about 1,800 votes are enough for one seat based on the affirmative action. In the event of regular threshold, a party needs almost double the number of votes,” Pobjeda’s source from BS said.

In the past local elections, Bosniak Party run as a part of DPS candidates list. It had two candidates on the list.

According to Pobjeda, the plan of the ruling coalition is to win at least two seats in the City Council through independent performance of BS and the Albanian parties under the principle of affirmative action. As the coalition believes, this would compensate about 5,500 votes it lacks compared to the previous general elections.
