In Montenegro, it has become unthinkable to live without air conditioning, and many people are left without electricity these days at plus 40°C. Citizens complain that the correspondents of the Montenegro’s Power Distribution System (CEDIS) who should be reported a failure do not answer the phones. Therefore, citizens are also unable to receive information about the reasons for remaining without power supply. In the previous few days, there were frequent power outages, especially in Tivat, Budva and Podgorica settlements. In Tivat, businessmen also protested because of this. Does all this indicate that the power system is in trouble?
Part of the businessmen in Tivat protested because of, as they said, frequent power outages, especially after the collapse in that city and Tivat airport.
Budva was also without power supply for several hours, and two nights ago, some Podgorica’s neighbourhoods – part of Stari Aerodrom, and Konik were also in the dark. Posts on Facebook about power outages do not mean much to the citizens and are mostly short stories going like this “due to a malfunction, the teams are on the field” and that’s it. That’s why CdM has asked CEDIS if, after these frequent power outages, the power system is in big trouble.
“What we can say is that the power system is stable despite the extraordinary weather conditions, which the competent institutions declared with a red weather alert and all the recommendations for behaviour in such extraordinary circumstances. The user’s power supply is orderly, in relation to the given circumstances, and there have been and will be failures of system elements in such circumstances, unfortunately, and as force majeure they cannot be influenced. Therefore, the conclusion that the power outages are ‘more frequent’ is surprising considering that were not asked for comparative data in relation to previous years. According to our data, it turns out to be less than in the same period last year. What is certain is that CEDIS is working hard, and we will continue to do so in the future, so that there are no power outages at all”, CEDIS states.
