Chicken, fruit and vegetables are safe

Chicken, fruit and vegetables in Montenegro are safe, according to a research by the Centre for Consumer Protection (CEZAP), done in cooperation with a Lithuanian organization that monitors food safety.

At the press conference, CEZAP chairwoman Olga Nikcevic said that the research was done within the project “Strengthening the capacity of consumer protection organizations in the field of food safety”.

“The first phase was done in August when 10 samples of fruit and vegetables were tested for pesticide content. Tomatoes, lemons and oranges were examined. According to expert opinion, these products are safe and correspond to legally permitted values,” said Nikcevic.

The second phase of the study exclusively dealt with chicken.

“It was done in January when we tested chicken samples from different producers to the hormone content. Three samples of chicken from Bijelo Polje, Niksic and Danilovgrad were taken, and two from the producers from Bosnia-Herzegovina and Serbia. I was pleasantly surprised that we were not able to find chicken from abroad in stores, which is encouraging,” said Nikcevic.

All the samples, she said, were safe and that is, she said, the beautiful news, after many bad ones we earlier heard when meat was imported from Brazil.
