Closing markets is not an expression of European values, says PM Marković

The coronavirus pandemic is an opportunity to show our unity and commitment to European values and principles. Montenegro acts in that spirit and that is why its ports will be available to the countries of the region, said PM Duško Marković told today during his talks with the Austrian Federal Chancellor, Sebastian Kurz, EU Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, and prime ministers of the other WB countries.

“In addition to numerous measures to protect its citizens, Montenegro has decided to make its ports available to countries of the region in order to ensure the flow of goods and to keep its borders open for trade and supply. With a full understanding of the need of all countries to help their citizens, I believe that closing markets and economies, blocking resources and goods is not an expression of solidarity or the European values,” PM Marković noted.

Speaking about the process of EU integration of the WB countries, the Prime Minister voiced satisfaction that the new Brussels administration had put the enlargement policy back in focus and that Croatia, which is currently presiding over the EU, had put it in its priorities.

Montenegro’s Prime Minister informed his counterparts about the initiative “Alliance for Europe”, saying that social dialogue is based on the principles of transparency and inclusiveness.

He also thanked Austria, the Federal Chancellor, as well as Croatia for their commitment to our region.
