Constitutional Court ruling allows moving of committed voters to other municipalities

Based on the Constitutional Court ruling of November 6, 2020, the article of the Law on Election of Councilors and MPs stipulating that a citizen must have registered residence at least six months before local elections, was repealed. The State Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Mr Zoran Miljanić, confirmed this information for Dan daily.

“Having in mind the Constitutional Court ruling, we do not expect this amendment to the law would affect the forthcoming elections,” he told.

According to him, the Ministry of Interior has set up a team tasked with monitoring the responsibilities of the Ministry arising from election laws ahead of the Nikšić elections.

The team comprises representatives of all organizational units within the Ministry dealing with elections, and is going to ensure that all obligations are carried out in a timely manner, that is, within deadlines prescribed by law, proactively and immediately.
