Bratisav Pejaković

Consumption and investment of the population and economy have been at a significantly lower level since the beginning of the pandemic, so people have left funds safe in banks, Secretary General of the Association of Banks Bratislav Pejakovic has told Pobjeda, explaining the growth of deposits during the crisis and economic slowdown.

According to the Central Bank, deposits reached a historic high of €3.8bn at the end of July. Compared to July last year, they increased by €528m, and €410m compared to July pre-crisis 2019.

One third of total deposits in banks are held by residents, who saved €1.3bn at the end of July, which is €67m more than in July last year, and €49m more than in 2019.

The increase in deposits also resulted from €998m held by non-residents in domestic banks.
