The priority section of highway Bar – Boljare, from Smokovac to Matesevo, has the main bulk of construction completed. That includes construction of key infrastructural facilities, such as bridge Moracica and two-pipe tunnels such as Jabucki krs and Klopot.
Ministry of Traffic and Maritime Affairs said that the construction is ongoing on 11 tunnels. There are 16 tunnels planned in this section and 20 bridges, of which construction is currently ongoing on 8 bridges.
The Ministry said that this section is very challenging. The investment needed for this section is at 809.6 million euros. Eksim bank will provide 688.16 millions, and Montenegro will provide 121.44. The credit is to be returned in 20 years, with a grace period of 6 years.
Montenegro is the only country in the region that does not have a highway. The need for such an infrastructural investment is seen in the yearly traffic between Serbia, that reaches up to 20 thousand vehicles in season.
