Cruiser and captain fined over speeding through Kumbor channel

The Port State Control of Montenegro – Kotor fined the MSC Musica ship €1,500 and its captain €200 over speeding through the Kumbor channel.

According to Radio Kotor, instead of up to 6 knots, the ship was passing at a speed of 8.1 knots through the channel in the Bay of Kotor.

Breaking speed limits was registered by the AIS Marine Traffic radar system, after which the PSC was invited to react.

It was a fourth or fifth warning to the same ship.

The Alegra mediating agency was also notified about the fine. It was also presented with video evidence on the event.

“It’s a minor fine, but we hope the case will contribute to being more careful while passing through the Kumbor and Verige channels, because when it comes to big cruisers, even a minor mistake can be catastrophic,” the PSC Kotor said.
