There is a noticeable trend of growth of DDoS attacks during important political events both in our region and at the global level. Accordingly, it is necessary to additionally increase the level of service protection in state institutions, media outlets, as well as in organizations that deal with monitoring election processes, according to the national Computer Incident Response Team (CIRT).
“A DDoS attack (Distributed Denial of Service) aims to prevent end users from using a certain service (access to a web portal, monitoring election results, etc.) by sending a large number of requests. Such hacker attacks are a readily used tool by those who do not want certain content to reach the general public”, CIRT points out.
As for the consequences, they are not some of the most dangerous ones.
“The greatest consequences can be caused by attacks such as sophisticated malware whose ultimate goal is to steal digital identity data, often money”, states CIRT.
CIRT, in addition to responding to incidents, also acts preventively, by educating users and publishing security warnings and advice.
During the upcoming elections, CIRT will take all measures within its jurisdiction to prevent potential DDoS attacks in coordination with state institutions, the private sector and international partners.
