Chief of the Serbian diplomacy, Ivica Dačić, said that it would be healing for the Serbs to join the Government in Montenegro. He adds that Montenegro should finally realize that Serbia doesn’t feel sorry anymore for splitting with Montenegro.
Commenting on the relationship between the two countries, Dačić says it’s stable,
“It’s important that there’s a dialogue. Besides, we have the same objective – the EU and the stability of the region”, says Dačić.
He also commented on the statement made by Milo Đukanović, who said that the relations between Serbia and the neighbors had sharpened.
“If I’m correct, he also said that Montenegro brought decisions in its own interest. Well, Serbia does the same. Are we supposed to apologize for that? Another thing is that he said, in the same interview, that we were responsible for the „destruction of Montenegro“, whatever that means. Not even a single Montenegrin citizen has been forbidden to enter Serbia. Montenegro’s EU accession doesn’t depend on Serbia. That’s really ridiculous”, said Dačić.
He points out that Serbia want Montenegro to enter the EU and says they are open for the dialogue on all important topics.
“We just can’t accept to be constantly guilty of everything”, says Dačić.
If anybody should regret 1918, that’s Serbia, They lost 28% of the population.
“Why would we feel sorry for Montenegro? We used to be one state even earlier, we just never entered into conflicts. That’s a tragedy. And King Nikola, when issuing the proclamation to the people in 1914, he wrote “long live our dear Serbian people”. He wrote that, not me”, said Dačić.
He adds that gusle belongs to both Serbian and Montenegrin people-
“But there’s no such a song that’s dedicated to the conflict between Serbia and Montenegro. We wish all the best to Montenegro, we don’t care what they do, as long as our national interests and the position of Serbs in Montenegro aren’t in question. Since it’s our sovereign right. But we should do that in a mutual friendship”, says Dačić.
In his opinion, position of Serbs in Montenegro is an important element in bilateral relations of the two states.
“Serbian people are constructive, and they aren’t a minority in Montenegro.. They should be allowed to decide upon the matter of the language they speak. Also, Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro is an important part of its history and culture and the church must be treated that way. If Serbian people in Montenegro became the part of the leading coalition, many problems would be solved”, says Dačić.
He added that Montenegro should tackle the case of Branka Milić within the competences of their institutions. It’s up to Serbia to assist by the information and data exchange.
