Dalibor Jaukovic left a letter for family behind

During the search of Dalibor Jaukovic’s apartment, police found a six-page letter. In his letter, he apologised to his family and relatives for what he was about to do, describing his personal and political attitudes, Pobjeda writes.

Jaukovic threw the explosive device on the US Embassy building in Podgorica. After that, he activated another explosive device and blew himself up.

Investigators believe that it is a kind of farewell letter characteristic for people ready to commit suicide.

The letter could help in finding out the motive of the attack. It would be analysed in the Forensic Centre to see whether it was authentic.

Although born in Serbia, Jaukovic was a Montenegrin citizen. He was one of the 14,000 persons decorated for fighting in Kosovo in 1999, during the NATO bombardment of Serbia and Montenegro. Late Serbian president Slobodan Milosevic signed his commendation personally.

The police ransacked Jaukovic’s apartment and several other locations trying to establish if he was working alone or as a member of a larger organisation. His neighbours were in shock and disbelief.

The US Embassy said it was working closely with the police in shedding light on the attack. The Embassy also said it had no indications that the attack was part of an extended threat, although the investigation into the motives of the bomber continues.
