Damjanovic: Arrangement with IMF is a long shot

Aleksandar Damjanović

The state budget currently lacks €170m, so the borrowing is certain until the end of the year. We are focused on cooperation with international financial institutions and domestic banks, we will not issue bonds this year and next year, while a possible arrangement with the IMF is “a long shot”, Finance Minister Aleksandar Damjanovic has said in an interview for Pobjeda.

He has pointed out that he will soon speak openly with the IMF representatives in Podgorica, and that they had a preliminary communication with their headquarters in Washington. He has also pointed out that they are not currently holding discussions about a possible financial arrangement with that institution.

“Any arrangement with the IMF that would include financing would not mean a reduction in wages and pensions, on the contrary”, claims Damjanovic, who expects Parliament to adopt a new revised budget by the end of September at the latest.
