The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration told Dan they will not comment on personnel decisions at ambassadorial functions until the completion of all procedures for obtaining accrediting.
Ambassador’s mandate usually lasts four years, but may be extended. Montenegrin ambassador in Washington, Srđan Darmanović, took office on December 7th 2010, when he handed over letters of credence to President Barack Obama. His predecessor in that post was Miodrag Vlahovic, whose tenure lasted from 8 December 2006 until 2010. At a formal reception at the Palace of Saint James, Ljubisa Stankovic on May 7th, 2011 presented Queen Elizabeth II the letters of recall for his predecessor, Dragisa Burzan, and his own Letters of Credence.
Stankovic was the beginning of the year mentioned as someone who could publicly support any of the candidates for president of the SDP, but nothing happened.
According to the agreement between DPS and SDP, post of the ambassador to the United States belongs to the party of Prime Minister Milo Djukanovic, while the post of diplomatic representatives of Montenegro in London belongs to the party of Parliament leader, Ranko Krivokapic.
Borislav Banovic has a degree in Political Science, and since 2001 he holds the position of the MP in the Parliament of Montenegro. He is member of the Parliamentary Committee for International Relations and Immigrants, and for security and defense. Also, he was a member of the writing committee for the first Constitution of Montenegro after the restoration of its independence.
Milica Pejanovic Djurisic has been serving in the leadership of the Democratic Party of Socialists for the past decade. From February 2004 to July 2006, she was Ambassador of Serbia and Montenegro in Belgium and Luxembourg. After gaining state independence, she has been appointed Ambassador of Montenegro to France, Monaco and at UNESCO, performing this duty from February 2007 to 2010. Two years later she became the first woman in Montenegro to be appointed minister of defense.
