“A greater number of attempts at in vitro fertilization (IVF) and the moving of the age limit to 45 have been provided by the state to couples in Montenegro through the adoption of the Law on Biomedically Assisted Fertilization. However, the finances allocated to our hospital for 2023 are not sufficient to be able to provide this service to all couples who opt for that procedure”, Dr. Zeljko Lazovic, the head of the Human Reproduction Ward at Cetinje Danilo I General Hospital, has told the RTCG portal. He has pointed out that since the beginning of the year, about 60 IVF procedures have been performed, and that another 40 couples are waiting for instructions.
“Since the beginning of the year, about 60 IVF procedures have been performed in the Department of Human Reproduction, currently there are about 20 more couples in the process for which we currently have the necessary therapy,” said Lazović and added that another 40 couples are waiting for instructions for in vitro fertilization.
“Referrals last for six months from the moment they are issued by primary care gynecologists, during which period the findings necessary for a couple to enter the procedure are also valid. In the plans that we submit to the authorities every year, we projected 220 procedures for this year”, says Lazovic.
He points out that the hospital’s finances for 2023 are not sufficient to be able to provide services to all couples who have opted for IVF.
