Denmark ratified accession protocol

Danish parliament ratified Montenegro-NATO accession protocol on Monday, Pobjeda newspaper reported.

According to the Parliament website, 94 MPs supported the ratification, no one was against and 9 of them abstained from voting. It became the 19th NATO member to ratify the protocol after Iceland, Slovenia, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Estonia, Latvia, the UK, Turkey, Poland, Lithuania, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg.

When it comes to the most powerful country in the world, USA, the ratification should be on the US Senate’s agenda in January.

Pobjeda’s source said that all NATO member states were dealing with ratification of the Montenegro’s NATO accession protocol. However, when the process will be ended depends on the procedures in individual parliaments. According to some estimates, the process, which started on 8 June, could take less than a year.

When it comes to the most powerful world power the United States, the question of ratification of the Accession Protocol should be on the agenda of the Senate in January.

The Foreign Affairs Committee of the US Senate adopted a resolution granting consent to ratification of the protocol, but senators did not declare on this issue at the last Congress’ session.

Montenegro signed the protocol on full membership in NATO in Brussels on 19 May.
