DF submits request to hold protests, response expected by Friday

The request, signed by DF officials Andrija Mandic, Nebojsa Medojevic, Milan Knezevic and Milutin Djukanovic, seeks the permit to hold a protest from 6 to 9 PM, writes daily newspaper Dnevne Novine.

Dan daily wrote Police Department of Podgorica will decide on the request by Friday at midnight, when the legal deadline expires.

The protest walk would, as stated in the request, start at the Republic Square and end at the monument of King Nikola opposite of the Assembly. Organizers of the protest plan to make “a living ring” around certain institutions.

The commentator for Dnevne Novine, professor of the Faculty of Security in Belgrade, Zoran Dragisic, said he expects protests scheduled for Sunday will be similar to those of two weeks ago. The reason is, he says, because protests are being organized by the same politicians, and because it is expected that the same people who last time caused riots will be here again on Sunday.

“In this case, the police must make an appropriate safety assessment, because it has additional data which is not available to ordinary citizens, and based on these data, make decisions and establish which individuals may be a threat, thus preventing them from committing certain crimes in advance”, said Dragisic.

He believes that the police will approve the rally, because otherwise, the opposition would experience it as pressure and as an undemocratic act.

Dragisic stressed the police should take a series of measures to prevent disorders. One of them is to isolate the group reasonably suspected of causing disorders on October 24th.

“If however, despite all this, clashes do happen, the main culprits will be the organizers of protests”, said Dragisic.
