Djukanovic: DF to explain how it got involved in terrorism against Montenegro

President of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Milo Djukanovic said on Wednesday that Democratic Front (DF) had to explain “how it got involved in terrorism against Montenegro and how it happened that they intended to get in power by force and kill people”.

“Gentlemen from DF must respond to that. Now they are afraid and in panic, causing various ‘fogs’ to blur their misdeeds and trying to protect themselves,” Djukanovic said after presenting the DPS candidates list for local elections in Herceg Novi, Dnevne Novine newspaper reports.

Asked to comment on the possible unrest in Montenegro, Djukanovic said that there would be no unrest.

“This country is stable and it has showed it has a very strong immune system and a healing therapy when it comes to creating turmoil. I recommend that no one tries to make trouble and threatens this country and people’s rights. Whoever tries it will get what he/she deserves,” said Djukanovic.

Responding to a question to comment on the attempt of discrediting chief special prosecutor Milivoje Katnic and justice minister Zoran Pazin, belittling the investigation and putting pressure on the judicial authorities on the eve of issuing indictment and court trial on terrorism attempt, Djukanovic said that conditions for having free, independent, impartial and professional judiciary and prosecution had to be created.

“I will remind you that some prosecutor’s office and court decisions severely affected DPS and that many of our competitors counted that those blows would worsen the party’s rating on the political scene. As you know, we had no hesitation about that,” Djukanovic said.

He pointed out that the things DF is currently doing only confirmed the suspicions announced by the chief special prosecutor.

“This is how people behave in a panic. This is behaviour of guilty people, who are aware that they are guilty, who are aware that they are on the brink of disclosing their sins and who try to create various ‘fogs’ to obscure their responsibility,” said Djukanovic.

He wondered about insisting on a story about whether a cooperative witness committed a crime in Croatia.

“What do we expect – that some academics participate in a terrorist plot against Montenegro? Not! In order for someone to be a cooperative witness and testify about the preparation of a terrorist act, it is necessary that he/she took part in it previously. What does it mean when someone tells you that he/she had committed another crime in another country? It is the same thing as if a burglar comes to rob a jewellery store and after being caught starts to accuse you of failing to pay taxes to the state. There are authorities in charge for taxes – in the same way, there are Croatian authorities in charge of Sindjelic’s deeds in Croatia,” Djukanovic said.
