DPS leader Milo Djukanovic proposed significant changes in his party’s organisational structure recently. During the DPS executive committee’s sitting, Djukanovic proposed an increase in the number of coordinators from 17 to 28 and the key novelty would be the establishment of coordination bodies responsible for DPS’s campaign in municipalities where elections were pending, Pobjeda learns.
The executive committee is operation party body in charge of monitoring and implementing the established party policies.
The current organizational structure of DPS stipulated one coordinator per municipality on behalf of the party presidency. He/she coordinated the campaign and the work of the local party branches, including a decisive influence on the choice of DPS list leaders for municipal elections.
One of the principal requirements for these coordination bodies will be that they have at least one young party member on board. DPS assessed after the Herceg Novi elections, where it achieved a poor result, that it was necessary to bring in new blood.
So far there have been attempts to significantly rejuvenate the party, but it has turned out that suggestions and even concrete proposals from the party leadership have not produced any significant response on the ground in local councils, where friendship and business relations are stronger. In the opinion of DPS leadership, this led to certain lethargy in the party, which can be very dangerous on the eve of a number of elections at the end of this year and particularly during the next year”.
“The idea is to further professionalize party structure by increasing the number of coordinators. The party network would be strengthened by formation of coordination bodies,” Pobjeda’s source from DPS said, adding that the decision on increasing coordinators number will be made at one of the upcoming Presidency sittings.
In addition, DPS plans to set up a media centre as in large European parties.
“The aim is to improve communication with through swift responding to all events,” the source said.
Managing the newly formed media centre will be entrusted to one of the DPS Presidency members.
