We were running a patriotic and civic-oriented bloc and managed to defend Montenegro. The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) will be leading state politics next year, the leader of the DPS, Milo Djukanovic, said during the celebration of the DPS’ Day.

He also pointed out that 31-year existence of the DPS, with no exception, was the time of their success in politics. On 30 August 2020, he added, “we faced new challenges”.

“Both for the DPS and the civic and European Montenegro. Being clear with our role in modern Montenegro, we recognized those challenges as a new chance. A chance to face our weaknesses in a more experienced way. It’s almost inevitable to show some weakness after 30 years of ruling. After detection, we had to approach them responsibly and decisively eliminate them all. That’s why we started with reforms.”

Mr Djukanovic continued: “However, it wasn’t the hardest challenge. The hardest thing was to defend Montenegro from nationalistic attacks following 30 August 2020.”

However, according to him, Montenegro has stayed on its initial route of development, preserved independence, fostered international harmony and good neighbourly relations.
