As previously announced, the newly established parliamentary Committee on Comprehensive Reform of Electoral and Other Legislation will be tasked with the amendments to the Law on Financing Political Entities and Election Campaigns. As the adoption of this law doesn’t require a two-thirds majority, it can be easily amended and its solution may be put in practice quickly, writes Dan, a daily.
The Democratic Montenegro points out that they are ready for new solutions. Their official, Mr Nikola Rovčanin, notes that it’s evident there’s a need to improve this law, align it with the international standards and recommendations.
“You know that the Democrats have already proposed and submitted a full text of the new law during the term of the former Committee, which will certainly serve as a basis for the work of the current Committee. You already know about our position, i.e. that we back the insertion of unlawful financing of political entities into the Criminal Code as a criminal offence, as it represents a basis for a fair election race,” Mr Rovčanin told Dan daily.
Social Democrat (SD) MP, Mr Boris Mugoša, told Dan that when all formal preconditions for the work of the Committee are created, the SD representative will participate in its work, which includes dealing with the issue of financing political entities and election campaigns.
The Committee is expected to finish with work until 30 June, and the afore mentioned law should be submitted to the Parliament no later than that date.
