The Democratic Party of Socialists’ candidate running for president of Montenegro will be the leader of that party and current president, Milo Djukanovic. This had been proposed earlier today by the DPS presidency, while the party’s Main Board later on unanimously adopted it.

“The Main Board of the DPS unanimously adopted the proposal of the Presidency that the current President of Montenegro and the Leader of the DPS should be a presidential candidate in the forthcoming election,” they stated.

According to them, such decision was the result of a detailed, several-week long reconsideration of the current political situation, after which it was concluded that the forthcoming presidential elections would be a “turning point” in the future development of relations at the Montenegrin political stage, and that it’d “significantly determine further course of Montenegro’s development”.

The presidential election has been scheduled for 19 March.

So far, the State Election Commission (DIK) has confirmed candidacies of the Leader of the New Serb Democracy, Andrija Mandic, and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) MP, Draginja Vuksanovic Stankovic.
