At today’s session, the Presidency of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) has decided to withhold support from the Government headed by Dritan Abazovic, CdM learns.

The DPS Presidency has opted for this move after the Government adopted the draft Fundamental Agreement between Montenegro and the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) on Friday.

The DPS has announced that at today’s session, “regret was expressed due to the change in the political course of the Government of Montenegro”, as well as that the Government abandoned the priority task of fulfilling obligations from the European integration agenda.

With such a change of priorities by the Government, the opportunity to ensure the strengthening of the consensus of civil, pro-European politics has been missed, and instead, the old divisions in Montenegro have been strengthened in a completely unnecessary and self-destructive way, which has seriously jeopardized the suddenly presented chance that our Montenegro, as a country that already has long been at the forefront of the negotiation process with the EU, in due course also becomes its first next member, DPS says.
